Every year my collegues and I get together for a barbecue in the Summer.  Last years was great, the first time Jessica and I had seen eachother for years (leading to us getting together), and also the first year of the glider competition, where everyone is supplied with a kit of balsawood, from which to make a hand launched (chuck) glider.

This year my design was based loosely on some plans I found on the internet.  I think next time I make one, I will use different plans, or make my own, as the nose of the glider broke off after the first throw and, on the second it proceeded to break into 4 pieces, just for fun I taped it back together and threw it again before the 4th and final throw into a bin.  There were some quite impressive gliders present though, the furthest mine went was a couple of metres before being picked up by the wind and sent off to the side to end up in a heap on the ground, but some did manage a good distance.

Having a BBQ is great fun, whether it be at a beach or a country park,  It’s a great idea add a bit of excitement to your BBQ by organising a competition like this.  It is really great fun for everyone, just be safe and take lots of sun cream.
